LEFT:
Gerry gets a left at the South Mission Beach Jetties in San Diego,
California, sometime in the early 1960's.
Notice in this shot: He's using no cord and no wetsuit,
as this dates back to before the invention of board cords (leashes),
any good wetsuits, and when the waves were still uncrowded in San
Diego. This surfing spot today, even in these mediocre surf conditions,
would be crowded.
He's also using what is considered today, a "longboard,"
but then, the only surfboard as shortboards had not yet been invented. |
