Kit Horn Kit Horn was a great guy who used to walk the beach by our surfing lessons. One time he stopped and told us how they used to teach safety: "We'd have them all stand in a line, then hit them all at once across the face with a 12 foot redwood board." Funny, I still use the story sometimes for comic relief, adding that we haven't been able to use that method since the Regan era. We miss you Mr. Kit Horn your ghost is always welcome at our lessons, we will remember you and use your safety method for beginners. New York Times article on Kit Horn

FOR PRIVATE SURFING LESSONS in CARMEL, BIG SUR and MONTEREY, CONTACT MARC CROSS.
(MARC CROSS PRIVATE CARMEL SURF LESSONS is not affiliated with Leucadia Surf School, although we fully recommend him for surfing lessons in the Carmel area.) (When Leucadia Surf School owner Gerry Kantor's family moved up to Carmel for a short time when he was in the 8th grade, Marc Cross was there and a friend of Gerry's, and absolutely ripped back then! We were all impressed. Marc says his surfing is even better now! You would be absolutely lucky to get a surf lesson from Marc Cross. Not only did he rip way back in the 8th grade, but he is from a hawaiian lineage of pioneer surfers. Read about Dickie Cross, who is Marc Cross's uncle).
See Marc Cross at the Annual Carmel Surfabout surfing contest as reported in the Monterey County Herald.
1st Place, Kahuna Division, Carmel Surfabout, May 10, 2009. (Disqualified in the open longboard division due to an interference call).

Melisse Restaurant

Melisse Restaurant - Los Angeles
Melisse restaurant
in Santa Monica, California comes highly recommended by Leucadia Surf School, and just about everyone else, including the people that really matter (not like us). Melisse is one of only three Michelin rated 2 star restaurants in Los Angeles for two years in a row now, and one of only 15 Michelin rated restaurants in the entire U.S. You really haven't eaten food until you have eaten the food here. This is the number one rated restaurant in LA right now and for several years running, under the direction of Chef/Owner Josiah Citrin. It also has awards for top wine list in Los Angeles. The two star Michelin and the number one Zagat rating plaques are hanging on the wall right inside the door. Dress nice and bring your wallet.
